As a Landscape Designer, I consult with clients at their homes and businesses to create solutions to improve their landscapes. I might be coming up with creative solutions to landscape problems, helping with a landscape renovation, or designing a brand new landscape. Some of my projects include designing outdoor kitchens, patios, retaining walls, planting beds, gardens, and just about anything else in the landscape! I estimate jobs and oversee the installation of my designs. I work with clients to choose landscape materials, plants, and other features for their projects. I order materials for scheduled jobs and consult with subcontractors as well. I love problem solving!
Experience and Credentials
I graduated from South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD with a degree in Landscape Architecture. I worked on a crew at a landscape and irrigation company the first summer of college and the following summers were spent working full-time on a grounds maintenance crew for the University’s arboretum and botanic gardens. I started with Wapsie Pines in May of 2014.
Best things about your job
Wapsie Pines is very family-friendly. Our owner, Danny, has children and understands that the unexpected comes up when you have a family. A lot of our employees are young and starting their families and I love when they bring their kids (dog children too) to the office. Danny trusts that each of us will work hard and do our job with integrity. When something doesn’t go as planned, he is the first person I consult with to find a solution. Having a leader you can trust and count on reduces a lot of stress!

Common misconception you deal with in your daily job
When I first talk to clients they are usually surprised that I am a female designer and because of this, they assume I only do planting design and not hardscapes. Our field of work is very male dominant but when I was in school, the top performers were women! I am seeing many more women in the landscape field. Girl Power!
I love to be outside. I garden, kayak, hunt, fish, walk, camp, and anything else I can do outside. I have a little boy who is so much fun. We go on walks, read, and discover all sorts of new things. I also enjoy cooking, fermentation and DIY projects.
