21 YEARS of Quality Landscaping Services
Here’s what clients like about wapsie pines
Excellent job on the construction of our patio. The Silver Creek Bluestone Slate with the Chilton/Eden limestone retaining walls and steps look fabulous. The crew from Wapsie Pines Lawn Care and Landscaping provided us with a great project. It will be used extensively. In fact I'm going to head out there with my cup of coffee as soon as I post this.
We have used Wapsie Pines to service our irrigation system and do Spring lawn clean up the past few years and have always been very happy with their service. This year we needed to do landscaping around our small back yard pond and our front entry. We were extremely pleased with the plan Autumn came up with and the installation that Mike and his crew did.
We used Wapsie for design and installation of a brick patio, sitting wall, pergola and grill space. The design they came up with was great. It took into account the need to direct water from the run off of the neighbors yard away from our house and gave us a beautiful outdoor space. Everyone that has seen our patio has commented how beautiful it is. It is unique and very functional. Any concerns or issues we had were addressed. We will have them work up a design for our front yard when we are ready to re-do that area.
It’s pretty hard to find a good landscaper these days, but when I asked Wapsie Pines to do my work, all that changed. The workers sent worked diligently over several days to revitalize the view of our front lawn. I give Wapsie Pines five stars for their great work and will definitely have them back in the future.
We are very pleased with our landscape design by Autumn, the professional workmanship by the landscapers, and the quality of the plants and trees. We have really enjoyed this experience and highly recommend Wapsie Pines!

It's very important to diversify when selecting trees for your property. If you plant all of one species and a new pest arrives that attacks that species, you're at risk for losing all of your trees! We've seen this with the many Ash-lined streets being destroyed by the Emerald Ash Borer. Consider planting an Oak, a Catalpa, a Honeylocust, or any number of other species of tree, along with your beautiful Red Maple!
Yes! You can plant up to six weeks before the ground freezes. I'm sure you're thinking, "that's great but how do I know when the ground will freeze?" This can vary from year to year but most years, in northeast Iowa, it's safe to plant until about mid-October. So you've planted your tree, shrub, or perennial, and are asking yourself "now what do I do?" After planting it's important to water everything well. Watering after planting gets rid of all the air pockets in the ground and ensures your plant's roots make good contact with the soil. Now here's the good part about fall planting. In a typical year (if there is such a thing in Iowa), you should only have to water a few more times up until the ground freezes. This is much less than what's required for spring or summer plantings. While you need to water less in the fall, It is still important that plants, shrubs, and trees go into winter with adequate moisture. If we have a dry fall like in 2017, it's up to you to provide the moisture the plants need. Plants are living things so there's never a guarantee they will survive no matter when they were planted. In addition to adequate moisture, there are lots of other factors that influence a plant's survival. Providing your fall plantings with adequate moisture going into winter is one thing you can do to help your new plants get off to a healthy and happy start next spring!
When you leave grass clippings on your lawn, they help to retain moisture and feed your lawn. For grass clippings to be able to filter down into your lawn and do their work, they need to be 1" long or less. If the lawn hasn't been mowed regularly or it's been mowed when wet, the grass clippings form clumps that block air and sunlight and are NOT beneficial to your lawn. If this happens, either bag the lawn this time or mow over the lawn multiple times with a mulching mower to break up the clumps and allow the grass clippings to filter down into the soil where they can do their beneficial work!
